On Special Forces selection, the fast way to get sent back to your unit is to voice any type of complaint for any reason.  Never truer was the oft quoted Army saying, “Yours is not to question why, just to do and die.”

It was Day Three of selection and all the candidates were exhausted.  Roused at 2 AM, candidates were sent out into the cold rainy night with full gear to hike fifteen miles.  As dawn broke, the soaked candidates saw trucks ahead and happily assumed they were being driven back to base.  However, one of the selection sergeants said, “Nah, forget the trucks, we’ll walk back.”

One candidate, completely demoralized, verbally lamented, “This is all so F***ing ridiculous.  We aren’t training.  We’re being tortured. What is the point?”

The last words that candidate heard from the selection NCOs were, “What part of “Special” don’t you understand?”
